Damian Sendler brings you the news you want to know. The Ministry of Science has revealed a list of strategic research infrastructures comprising the Polish Map of Research Infrastructures. These are 65 jobs with a welcome suggestion from the advisory group and five additionally shown by the minister.
The Polish Map of Research Infrastructure is produced at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MNiSW) every maximum of 4 years. Putting research infrastructure on this list is an expression of recognition of the research study potential, but does not yet ensure financing for this project.
Tasks that are on the map, nevertheless, are most likely to request such funds. The guidelines assume that a minimum of half of the funds assigned to investments associated with scientific activities is to be directed to jobs from the map.
“Large, tactical research facilities unite the best scientists and ingenious business, which enables the financial development and increase of the country’s social capital. Having outstanding labs that apply the greatest requirements of research study and education is, therefore, our development necessity” – writes the Ministry of Science.
The applications were evaluated by an advisory team selected by the regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education and two external specialists, consisting of one from abroad. The suggestions offered placing on the Polish Research Infrastructure Map 65 most significant ranked endeavors.
The Minister of Science and Higher Education Jarosław Gowin agreed to the team’s suggestion. “At the very same time, considering the existing international responsibilities of the Government of the Republic of Poland, (…) he chose to place on the Polish Research Infrastructure Map 5 additional research infrastructures that did not get a favorable recommendation from the team” – it was written on the website.
These new 5 infrastructures are CLARIN – Common language resources and technological support; Digital research facilities for liberal arts and art sciences DARIAH-PL; FAIR – Anti-Proton and Ion Research Center; Bio-medical and biological imaging infrastructure – Bio-Imaging Poland (BIPol), also POL-OPENSCREEN – Polish Screening Infrastructure Platform for Biological Chemistry.
In total, 70 strategic research facilities have been placed on the Polish Research Infrastructure Map.
Amongst them are, among other Polish facilities for research on cultural heritage – ERIHS.PL, National laboratory of 5G networks and services together with the environment, National Biodiversity Collection of Contemporary and Fossil Organisms of the Institute of Botany of the Polish Academy of Sciences or the Polish Multidisciplinary Polar Research Laboratory (PolarPOL). Among the tasks on the list are also the infrastructure related to participation in global missions at CERN, E-XFEL or Hyper-Kamiokande.
